Renouned North Carolina Artist
William Mangum

About the Artist
It was not until he was a senior in college that the now internationally acclaimed artist William Mangum discovered his hidden talent for the medium of watercolors. 27 years later, watercolor painting is the very technique that has earned him a career. He is now a painter, entrepreneur, public speaker, product licensee, and furniture designer. To put it simply, William Mangum is taking the art and corporate worlds by storm.
Throughout his career, Mangum’s artistic sojourns have taken him from the Carolina coastline, up to quaint New England, over to California and Washington, into Europe, and to the oh-so-many little places on the map that fall in between. He has published four books, hung paintings in the governor’s mansion, spent time with Senator Elizabeth Dole, Charlie Rose, Michael Jordan, Richard Petty, and Charles Kuralt, (to name a few), and served as an official artist at the legendary US Open Golf Tournament.
This list of talents is only the beginning… Much like the perceived three- dimensionality in one of his paintings, William Mangum has passions that extend far beyond his art studio. He spends every Wednesday morning serving breakfast in a neighborhood soup kitchen. He has helped to raise more than $1,000,000 for the prevention of homelessness. He has revolutionized the North Carolina Scholastic Art Awards program, and he continually supports over 300 other philanthropic endeavors.
Mangum also has an oratory gift. Companies across the United States are bringing him in to deliver keynote addresses at corporate events. He shares the story of how a small-town boy with little or no formal art education was able to turn a 59 cents tray of watercolors into a lifelong career and a multi-million dollar art business. He motivates young artists to pursue their dreams, and he echoes the quote, “People don’t choose careers, they’re engulfed by them.”
As time passes and his travels continue, William Mangum’s biography will continue to evolve. If you would like to learn more about a particular painting or have a specific question, please contact the gallery. Otherwise we hope you will check back often and join us on these exciting adventures.
