Tim Bardy will be showing several of his bird portraits at Ashley’s Art Gallery in Fuquay-Varina, as part of the Community Art Festival on Friday evening, November 9th. Featured work will be “Greet the Morning”, “Snowy Freckle”, and “Togetherness”.
Tim’s interest in photography began as a young boy on special nights when slides of family events like vacations, holidays, graduations, and picnics were presented at what seemed to be larger-than-life size on the projector screen in the family room. Gathered around massive bowls of popcorn popped on the stove top, the medium of photography and the power to communicate through visual imagery captured Tim.
In the 4th grade Tim’s teacher introduced him to birds when she gave his class an assignment to write a report on a bird of their choosing. Tim’s report on the Eastern Screech Owl hooked him and he began walking home from the school yard looking for birds on the wires and in the trees hoping to find one he had never seen before.
Just a few years ago Tim decided to meld these separate interests into one (kill two birds with one stone, so to say). And now, photographing birds takes Tim to a more intimate interaction with them, rising from feathers to finery, from flight to finesse, from energy to elation, and from songs to symphonies.
As a photographer, Tim aims to bring the magnificence of the avian world within close reach so we may pause and appreciate the created world around us. Tim credits his dad for sparking his interest in photography, and credits his Father for the splendor of the beautiful birds He has created and for giving him the understanding and the ability to capture that beauty in his images.
Tim has won awards at Ashley’s Bird Photography contests, including first place in the Cardinal division in 2005 and best-of-show in 2006 with his Carolina Chickadee. The first place Cardinal photo has hung in the U.S. Embassy in Denmark representing North Carolina's state bird.
Tim lives with his wife, Pam, and their three children in Holly Springs.
